Compleo Sponsors Twestival 2009
With Twestival (www.twestival.com) blowing up the ol’ Tweet box of late, we felt it high time to track down the organizers of our local version of this international endeavor so that to get more involved. Compleo, which is located in Richmond, Virginia, is proud to support this year’s event, taking place in our own backyard.
The Camel will play host for the second annual event, set for September 11th, with a swelling base of Richmond do-gooders, businesses, and organizations now joining in the fun. Compleo will team up with Grid Magazine, Elevation, Richmond InsideOut, and Visit Richmond in sponsoring the shindig. In the original Twestival, Richmond, along with other cities, raised well over $250,000 for charity: water (www.charitywater.org). “It’s almost like a flash mob it happens so fast- but you get to track the difference you make later online- and can see the wells being built in Ethiopia for charity: water months later,” explains Copeland Casati, this year’s organizer, as well as founder of Green Modern Kits and Copeland Casati Media. "This year we said, ‘Why don’t we take a local turn! Benefit a non-profit within your own community.’” As a result, the local Twestival event will benefit a Richmond non-profit, Tricycle Gardens. “Tricycle Gardens builds community gardens and connects urban children with nature, gardening, food production…and so much more,” explains Casati. Compleo understands and embraces the idea that Twestival was born out of cities collaborating on an international scale, but working from a local level. “A lot of the Richmonders who participate in Twestival have a ‘Big World View’ but identify with applying it to a local level,” says Casati.
